MIGRAR
My series MIGRAR examines migration as a biological necessity, drawing on my background in cell biology and my experience living along major ecological migration corridors.
Inspired by the microscopic structures of monarch butterfly wings and laboratory techniques such as gel electrophoresis, I create each work by applying pigments, salts, and buffer solutions directly onto paper. As these materials interact and travel, they separate and settle into intricate forms that resemble both cellular structures under magnification and aerial landscapes.
Movement is simultaneously the central subject and the physical engine of my process. Through controlled experimentation, MIGRAR reflects the beauty and difficulty of movement while considering migration beyond geopolitical borders. Cells, seeds, animals, and humans all move in search of safety, opportunity, and resources.
These works ask us to consider migration is not simply a political issue, but a process essential to life and evolution.
